The gap between the monthly cost of charging a Tesla Cybertruck vs filling a Ford Maverick in the US is nothing short of staggering

The gap between charging a Tesla Cybertruck EV and refueling a Ford Maverick pickup truck is quite staggering when you look at the numbers.
There is always going to be a heated debate between EVs and gas vehicles – like there has been for years – and that will likely continue.
Several factors can combine to make one or the other more or less expensive, and it’s sometimes not clear which is the best option.
We’ve had a look at the numbers to work out how much the Tesla and Ford vehicles cost to run and refuel.
How much do a Tesla Cybertruck and a Ford Maverick cost?
Buying a Tesla Cybertruck is not for the faint-hearted, especially if budget is a key factor.
At the time of writing, the current base price for an entry-level Tesla Cybertruck stood at $69,990.
Compare that to the current 2026 Ford Maverick, which has a much lower starting price of just $28,145.
That is a huge price gulf in terms of outright cost.
This also doesn’t factor in the various trim levels, with the Cybertruck potentially costing up to $90,000 or more.
Yet we haven’t even looked at how much it costs to refuel and recharge these vehicles.
The Tesla Cybertruck versus the Ford Maverick
For this comparison, as we have done with others, we will assume that each of the trucks drives 15,000 miles a year.
In terms of the Cybertruck, it costs around $7.71 to charge the Tesla EV per 100 miles driven at home.
Factor in 15,000 miles, and that is a cost of roughly $1,156.50 per year to charge.
That is around $96.38 a month to recharge the EV.
At its most efficient, the current Ford Maverick can average roughly 38 MPG combined.
For the Maverick, per 100 miles it costs around $17.90 to refuel the truck based on its 38 MPG with fuel at an average of $6.80 a gallon.
That roughly works out to 394 gallons a year for 15,000 miles of annual usage.
When it comes to the annual fuel cost, it is around $2,684 that US drivers will expect to pay.
Per month, you can expect a fuel bill of $223.
What do the figures show us?
The figures show that, in terms of average fuel use, the Tesla Cybertruck is certainly a lot cheaper.
You can save over $1,000 a year by using the EV and recharging it at home.
The Maverick, which is one of the more economical pickups on the market, is still a good chunk more expensive.
But there is a caveat, and that is the cost of the Tesla EV.
A Tesla Cybertruck is not cheap, no matter which version you elect to buy.
It will also take some time to recoup some of the cost of the truck via what you save in fuel.
However, we know that EVs are good for the environment, so in many ways, it is easy to decide which one to buy.
