Project Tanzanite, a brand-new $500M superyacht owned by a mystery billionaire, is so massive that it makes Jeff Bezos’s Koru look small.

Jeff Bezos has been the modern-day Poseidon for years, ruling the seas on board Koru.

Known as one of the biggest luxury boats out there, it’s been sailing around the world with the Amazon owner for the last two years.

But now it faces stiff competition.

Project Tanzanite promises to tower over Koru

Koru already has some fierce rivals on the water.

Superyachts from Feadship and Lurssen, such as the behemoth Dragonfly owned by Google’s Sergey Brin, have been growing larger with every new unit.

Now, Project Tanzanite is here from Dutch yard Amels, which promises to dwarf Bezos’ St Bart’s bouyant beast.

Priced at $500m, the ship is set to be launched in 2026, where an unnamed billionaire will take its delivery.

Standing at 120m in length, the five-deck superyacht boasts a huge swimming pool, a diesel-electric motor, and enough room to escort 65 people – 22 guests and 43 cabin crew – for journeys spanning 6,000 miles.

The engine is a massive selling point, joining Bill Gates’ Breakthrough as a super eco-friendly superyacht.

“To limit her impact on the environment, the superyacht will be powered by diesel electric propulsion powering the Kongsberg Elegance pods.

“She is set to operate with the lowest levels of noise and vibration ever recorded on a yacht of this size,” Amels said.

What is the biggest superyacht in the world?

While Koru and Project Tanzanite are half-a-billion-dollar paradises, they aren’t the biggest private boats in the world.

That accolade goes to Azzam. Built by Lurssen in 2013, it was commissioned by Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, previously the President of the UAE.

The Flying Fox, owned by Manchester City owner and Abu Dhabi royal Sheikh Mansour, also stands longer than both the aforementioned luxury vessels, combining luxury and prowess at 135m.

But that doesn’t mean Project Tanzanite will be out of favor. It’s a remarkable superyacht.

The expected owner of the boat remains a secret.
