NBA star Magic Johnson is enjoying his summer vacation on a superyacht called Whisper.
We’re talking about a massive yacht that’s around the size of a soccer pitch and is worth a fortune.
More to the point, it also costs a fortune to charter.
And the reason why the former owner sold it is so obvious it’s almost amusing.

How Magic Johnson is spending his summer in Italy
NBA star Magic Johnson posted a reel to his Instagram page that’ll make a lot of people feel a tad jealous and envious.
This is because the legendary NBA star is spending his summer working out aboard the Whisper superyacht.
The yacht has been anchored in and traveling around the south of Italy for some time now, and the NBA icon is occasionally using the yacht’s tenders to reach land and enjoy Capri.

First launched in 2014, and originally named Kismet, this yacht is a 95.2-meter (312-foot) yacht the size of a soccer pitch.
Or, since we’re talking about Magic Johnson, the size of two NBA courts.
Aboard Whisper, you get a sauna, a movie theater, a helipad, a gym and a swimming pool and even a lift to go from one floor to the next.
And the price reflects that considering it takes around $1.4 million per week to charter it.
You’ll never guess who used to own the yacht
In a way, superyachts are perfect for describing the difference between the very rich, and the very very rich.
People who charter yachts such as this one are very rich, like Jay-Z and Beyonce or Magic Johnson in this case.
And then the people who own them are very very rich.
Whisper used to be called Kismet, and it was originally built and commissioned by Shahid Khan, a billionaire sports tycoon who owns an NFL team and a Premier League club, among other things.

Khan sold this massive yacht to Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, just a couple of years ago.
And the reason is simple: he wanted an even bigger and more lavish yacht.
That sounds like a nice problem to have.
