Tesla is the best-selling EV in the United States, but there’s another electric vehicle that is steadily climbing the ranks.

Although founded in 2003, Tesla didn’t launch its first vehicle – the Roadster – until 2008.

This was quickly followed by a handful of other models, including the Model S, Model 3, and the Cybertruck.

Tesla sells most of its vehicles in the US, and the marque creates the two best-selling EV models in the States: the Model Y and Model 3.

Tesla holds the crown, but another EV is rising the ranks

EV sales in the United States have seen a drastic increase recently, with July being the second-best-selling month ever for electric cars

The sudden rise is thought to be at least partly attributed to motorists rushing out to buy an EV before the federal tax credit ended on 30 September.

A new report revealed that in the third quarter, Tesla deliveries jumped 7 percent over the same time period last year.

However, while Tesla still claims the top two spot when it comes to America’s best-selling EVs, another carmaker has slipped into third.

The Chevrolet Equinox EV is now the best-selling EV in the US, outside of Tesla models.

New figures revealed that in the third quarter, General Motors sold over 25,000 Chevy Equinox EVs.

This brings the total sold to 52,834 through the first nine months of 2025.

It’s been a strong year for GM, with the figures also showing it shifted more than 710,000 vehicles in America during the third quarter.

Sales for the first nine months of the year are up 20 percent, representing around 2.2 million vehicles sold.

“No one is in a stronger position for a changing US market than GM,” General Motors North America senior vice president Duncan Aldred said.

It’s selling well due to its price and good range

With a starting price under $35,000 and more than 315 miles of range, the Equinox EV manages to stand out in the competitive all-electric market.

It also has an impressive charging time, with its DC fast charging adding about 77 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

In fact, one happy customer loved it so much she hailed it as ‘the best car’ she’d ever driven and said she’d never go back.

High praise indeed.
