These North Carolina guys have found an abandoned DeLorean in a forest.

After investigating a rumor, the group stumbled upon the iconic auto.

Ironically, it looks like it actually has been abandoned since 1985.

And it certainly does not look like it will be traveling any time soon.

Abandoned DeLorean discovered in North Carolina

If you’re old enough, you might have seen the first Back to the Future film.

Even if you aren’t a fan, you might have a good idea of what we are getting at.

Remember the second Marty McFly finds himself in 1955?

His iconic DeLorean DMC-12 crashes into a barn before being covered up and made to look dishevelled.

Sadly, life has imitated art in this case – because one has just been discovered.

A group of guys in North Carolina recently received a tip-off about an abandoned car.

But the car in question wasn’t just any old abandoned relic.

Instead, the car in question was one of the most famous ever – an actual DMC DeLorean.

The guys from North Carolina found this DeLorean sitting and rusting in a forest.

There is, however, good news and bad news.

The good news is that this example looks like it is capable of being restored.

Thankfully, the stainless steel body appears to have prevented any actual rusting.

Instead, its present condition is mostly owing to the dirt and dust surrounding it.

The bad news, however, is that the group was unable to actually find an owner.

It is currently sitting on private property, so the immediate future for this DeLorean is very unclear.

The most interesting back-story ever?

Of course, the DeLorean DMC-12 is one of the most famous cars ever built.

It is, by far, most famous for being the star of the Back to the Future franchise.

It was conceived as the brainchild of legendary executive John DeLorean.

John made his name as an executive at General Motors (GM).

Having enjoyed a legendary period of success at GM, the American car industry ended up in trouble.

In 1973, the world was engulfed in an oil crisis – and America’s car industry was right at the epicentre.

At that crucial point, John DeLorean shockingly announced that he was leaving GM to start the DeLorean Motor Company.

The now-iconic DMC-12 was manufactured just outside Belfast, in the North of Ireland.

Despite the hype, the car, unfortunately, never delivered anywhere close to expectations.

By 1982, things were extremely bleak for John and his company.

The factory was placed in receivership, DMC was $175 million in debt, and the founder was eventually arrested on drug smuggling charges.

Thankfully, it has endured as a beloved silver screen icon ever since.
