Vintage cars seldom come along in as good a condition as this, as one enthusiast has just documented himself landing a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ deal for a ‘brand new’ Subaru Legacy GLS.
Subaru has made a number of iconic cars over the years, peaking in the late ’90s and early ’00s with JDM models that became immensely popular.
The Subaru Legacy GLS was one of those, serving as a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to speed, safety, handling, affordability – both purchasing and running – and low maintenance.
Yet low-mileage Subaru Legacy GLS models are few and far between due to being popular daily drivers. With the exception of this one in the UK.

Vintage car enthusiast lands ‘bargain of the year’ with mint Subaru Legacy GLS
Nowadays, Subaru has been caught up in the trap many other manufacturers have found themselves in, shelving a multi-billion-dollar investment in fully-electric cars and instead opting for new hybrids.
Although it has gone down in style with its last gas-powered rally-bred saloon, the brand is still way off reliving its glory days.
However, British TV presenter Paul Cowland is still enjoying the prime Subaru days thanks to this incredible time capsule.
At a dealership that has been thriving since the ’60s, this Subaru Legacy GLS lived up to its evergreen name and has been kept impeccably since it was first bought in the late ’90s.

Showcased on Cowland’s YouTube channel, the dealership served as the garage for this car ever since it was sold, showing an extensive bank of service and maintenance records.
Serviced every 3,000 miles, the logbook had original technician signatures to show how it had been preserved by expert hands.
Sat at around 56,000 miles, the car was so well looked after that it still looked brand-new.
So he bought it.

Priced at $4,050, the presenter dubbed it the ‘bargain of the year,’ and snapped at the chance before he even looked it over.
“When it was offered to me, I didn’t even need to go and look at it. I just bought it over the phone,” he said.

A ‘testament’ to both the brand and owner
With a plan to put some more miles on the clock and continue its ‘legacy’, the YouTuber was full of praise for the car and its previous owner.
“Everything is tight. The engine is tight. No piston slap, no rumbles. The gearbox is so lovely. It’s so precise… they’re just so flipping easy to drive. Just a real pleasure this,” he added, once behind the wheel.
“It’s probably a car that will do another 200,000 [miles] easy. I’m going to drive the wheels off this thing and just get some enjoyment out of it.”

The family of the original owner also got in touch with the presenter on YouTube.
“The vehicle belonged to my uncle Bill, [and] it was well looked after. We are glad it has gone to a good home,” they said.
“Clearly a gentleman of impeccable taste. The car is a real testament to him,” Cowland replied.
As far as vintage cars go, this 27-year-old ‘peach’ is one of the best-kept cars out there, and shows just what’s possible if you look after your vehicles.
