Ferrari and Pininfarina: A match made in car Heaven

By now, almost everybody knows the origin story of Ferrari, the Italian car maker.

They especially know the story of the legendary Enzo Ferrari and his break-up with Alfa Romeo in the 1930s.

One story most people might not know as well, however, is that of a company called Pininfarina.

For those who are unaware, Pininfarina is an Italian, Turin-based car design and coachbuilder firm.

They also have a creative partnership with Ferrari that dates back almost 74 years.

In 1951, Battista Farina and Enzo Ferrari had a meeting in a small Italian town called Tortona.

The meeting went so well that both men agreed to be partners to help Maranello make the best cars available.

And it has been nothing but history-making ever since, with Pininfarina becoming a company of legend.

Behold the Rossa: a truly one-of-a-kind concept car

In the year 2000, the world did not, in fact, end as some people feared it would.

Something special did actually happen, though.

Pininfarina celebrated its 50th year of existence.

And to celebrate, the design firm produced one of the most beautiful concept cars ever seen.

Behold – the Ferrari Rossa.

This absolute stunner made its debut at the Turin Motor Show in June 2000.

The car was designed by a man called Ken Okuyama, the Japanese styling guru who would later create the Enzo.

And, true to Ferrari form, the car absolutely stole the show.

Beauty is much more than skin deep

Don’t just think that the Rossa concept car is all show and no go.

This stunning concept car came with a monster of a beast beneath the surface.

The Rossa borrowed the engine from the 550 Maranello.

Despite this, the naturally-aspirated V12 had a motor that was 2.5 liters larger than the Maranello.

All these factors combined to produce one of the most beautiful cars ever put together.

Despite several wealthy people expressing interest, the Rossa remained a one-off concept.

Bravo, Ferrari. Bravo.
