A man in Aberdeen, Scotland, won a McLaren 570S Spider supercar with a ticket for an online competition he’d bought for just 19p.

For reference, that’s the equivalent of 24 cents.

The 570S is no longer in production, so there’s no such thing as an MSRP on it, but $130,000 is more or less what it’s worth (on average) in the secondary market.

Not bad for 24 cents – right?

How this guy won a $130,000 supercar for peanuts

Aberdeen resident David Harkins entered an online competition for the kicks, and because the ticket was so cheap.

Like most people who enter such competitions, he was fully aware his chances of winning were close to zero, so he was not expecting to win.

“I saw the competition online [BOTB Special Edition Competition, ed.] and thought I’d give it a go, but I never imagined in a million years I would win,” he told AberdeenLive.

Harkins also said he can’t wait to drive his new supercar in the Scottish Highlands, a mountainous region in Scotland with incredible roads.

We can’t blame him.

About the McLaren 570S

The McLaren 570S is no longer in production, but it was replaced by Artura, which is even faster.

When it was first unveiled, in 2015, the 570S was marketed and sold as an ‘entry-level’ sports car for the McLaren brand, less powerful and less expensive than the 720S (below).

Obviously, in the supercar world, terms like ‘entry-level’ are used very loosely.

We’re still talking about a supercar with 563 horsepower and a six-figure price tag.

McLarens hold their value quite well.

Not long ago, somebody paid bought a fire-damaged 650S at a Copart auction.

It was theoretically the ‘cheapest McLaren’ in the United States, and it was almost totally destroyed, and yet it still cost the buyer six figures.
