The EV moped game just got more interesting thanks to Onyx Motors and its bold new release, the RCR 80V.
This Los Angeles-based brand, known for blending vintage aesthetics with modern electric tech, has stepped things up with a machine that’s faster, smarter, and packed with attitude.
Designed for performance and everyday use, the RCR 80V doesn’t try to fit into any one category.
It’s a lightweight electric vehicle that dares to be different, even while keeping its pedals (just in case).

This EV moped has some serious acceleration
At the center of the RCR 80V is an 80V, 45Ah battery connected to a motor capable of pushing 18kW peak power.
The result is a top speed of 65mph and a 0-30mph time of just 1.7 seconds.
While it’s still slower than this $10,000 electric scooter than can reach 80mph, that’s still some serious speed for something that technically qualifies as a bicycle in some places.

The design sticks to Onyx’s signature raw, mechanical look, with a rigid aluminum frame, 17-inch cast wheels, and fat four-inch tires.
You also get hydraulic disc brakes with 220mm rotors and regenerative braking to help stretch your range.
Speaking of which, Onyx claims 55 miles in Sport mode and up to 130 miles in Eco mode, which is plenty for a day’s ride around town or even a longer cruise.
Tech-wise, it’s smart without being showy.
A screen mirrors your phone for directions, while features like full LED lighting, an integrated alarm, and a battery lock show Onyx is thinking about the real-world rider.
And yes, it still has pedals, although they’re more for emergencies than actual use.
Blurring the line between e-bikes and motorcycles
What sets the RCR 80V apart isn’t just performance, but its place in a bigger movement.

This EV moped doesn’t fit neatly into any existing vehicle class: it’s faster than most e-bikes, even the one manufactured by Porsche, but smaller and more accessible than motorcycles.
Onyx is even working with lawmakers to help define the legal space for vehicles like this.
Starting at $4,699, the RCR 80V is on the higher end of the e-bike market, although it isn’t even the most expensive e-bike around.
But for that price, you’re getting serious performance, eye-catching style, and a ride that doesn’t compromise.
It’s not built for everyone, but that’s exactly why it stands out.
