After appearing at the Monterey Car Week showcase and winning ‘Best in Show’, the owner of this Ferrari F50 GT1 reportedly declined a whopping $100M offer that would have been the most expensive Ferrari sale ever.

Monterey Car Week sees the best cars on the planet gather on the West Coast of America.

But while the stage is usually hogged by brand-new reveals and worldwide debuts, The Quail highlights cars from years gone by in the most impressive catwalk in the automotive industry.

This year, a one-of-three, and the only remaining ‘working’, F50 GT1 stole the show, and the owner reportedly had to beat away offers of up to $100million.

Ferrari F50 GT1 owner reportedly declined record fee

The Quail was set up for a stellar showcase in 2025, with the likes of Aston Martin going all-in with a new trifecta of one-off supercars.

In fact, over $30million worth of carbon fiber was auctioned off at the event.

This year, the headliner was a Ferrari F50 GT1 owned by Art Zafiropoulo, which won The Quail’s Rolex Best of Show.

The one-of-three supercar, chassis number 001, boasts a rare modified 4.7-litre V12 engine that was tweaked to generate around 739hp and was the only one of its kind to be finished in-house at the Maranello plant.

A piece of automotive history.

According to some reports, Art Zafiropoulo was offered $100m for the car at Monterey by an unverified buyer, but swiftly turned it down.

This would have made it the most expensive Ferrari of all time.

What is the most expensive Ferrari?

The F50 GT1 already holds the record as the most expensive car that the brand has ever made.

Just last month, business tycoon Ralph Lauren sold one of the three supercars for $70m, making it the biggest Ferrari transaction of all time.

Other huge sums have been dished out for the accidental one-off Daytona SP3 599+1 last month too, with the special car fetching a price 10 times more expensive than other SP3s at $26m.

The esteemed Italian brand also boasts multiple other spots on previous auction record lists.

Art Zafiropoulo’s willpower was certainly tested here, but it just goes to show that these vintage Ferraris are truly priceless.
