Have you ever wondered where the pilots sleep on a long flight? Well, this rare look into the sleeping area on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner has you covered.
When on a long-haul flight, we’re all primarily concerned with who we’re going to catch some shut-eye in our seats.
But up front, the pilots have a whole other system going on.
This video shows us what catching some Zs looks like at 40,000 feet.

The pilot sleeping area on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner has been revealed
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner first entered service in 2011, and was built for long-haul international and medium-to-long regional routes.
With this in mind, one has to wonder where the pilots hit the hay during the long hours.

Unlike the passengers – who will have a neck pillow to fall back on – the pilots have their own space to get some rest.
During long-haul fights, aviation regulators will dictate how much sleep pilots should get.
This is understandable, as the plane is used on some of the world’s longest flights for airlines like Singapore Airlines and Australia-based Qantas.
We’re talking about upwards of 19 hours here.
As such, the planes come with sleeping compartments for the comfort of the crew.
To access the cabin, a person would have to enter a small stairwell in the crew gallery behind the cockpit.

As you might expect, this is strictly off-limit for passengers and is locked for security reasons whilst the plane is in flight.
And it’s also out-of-bounds during takeoff and landing – but that’s because the pilots need to be in the cockpit.
The pilot sleeping area is hardly a luxury suite, but it gets the job done.
Depending on your preference, you might think it looks rather snug.
But others might think it looks a tad claustrophobic.

Inside the lives of pilots
In the age of the internet, we’ve learned a lot about pilots.
For so long, they’d seemed like these figures that were out of reach and lived incredible lives – if we were lucky, we might catch a glimpse of them at the start or end of a flight.
But now, more and more of them are giving us a ‘Behind the Curtain’ look into their work lives.

One pilot explained why anyone capable of driving a car would be able to fly a plane.
Another pilot lifted the lid on how much he earns each year, while a third divulged about a strict rest rule all pilots have to follow.
But some inside details passengers do get to hear – like when this Delta pilot made an unexpected announcement about getting home to his chickens.
But if you want to get a personal look at their sleeping compartment, you’re out of luck.
