The mystery of the Bermuda Triangle has baffled many people for years, with some who have experienced it claiming strange behavior and events.

For one pilot who flew through it he experienced his aircraft failing as well as ‘jumping’ 100 miles.

On December 4, 1970, while flying from the Bahamas to the Florida coast, pilot Bruce Gernon experienced something he couldn’t explain and has never experienced again.

Gernon’s experience of the Bermuda Triangle

Gernon’s experience has been widely shared, particularly after he released his book ‘Beyond the Bermuda triangle‘.

In his recount of what happened he describes flying through, and how a journey that should have taken 90 minutes was completed in half the time.

He explains: “I didn’t believe in time travel or teleportation until it happened to me.

“Fog surrounded my craft, and I leapt ahead 100 miles.”

On his journey in 1970, he recalls flying through a dark cloud at 10,000 feet, before reaching another at 11,000 feet. Flying through the second cloud, he writes that everything went pitch black with no sunlight at all.

Moving towards a small light in the distance, he then faced his aircraft behaving strangely.

The controls of his aircraft appeared to stop working as he describes the plane being held and flown by a ‘supernatural force’.

Once exiting the dark clouds, Gernon realised he had reached his destination of Miami, Florida in just 45 minutes rather than the usual 90.

With no explanation for how he managed to fly there in half the time, the ‘jumping’ has been put down to being one of the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle.

The truth behind the Bermuda Triangle

This isn’t the first time Bermuda Triangle reports have emerged.

In fact, it has a reputation for being a location where ships sink and planes disappear.

There are many famous incidents, such as the disappearance of five US planes in 1945 or the disappearance of a huge cargo ship.

The legend surrounding the elusive area also claims that nearly 100 mysterious accidents occurred here in the 20th century.

Many theories have been offered on how the Bermuda Triangle was created and why it’s such a danger zone.

Many believe that the decay of methane hydrate at the bottom of the ocean can create large bubbles that sink ships, while creating powerful hurricanes that crash planes in the process.

The Bermuda Triangle also lies in the path that many hurricanes pass through, making it particularly treacherous. It’s also cut through by the Gulf Stream, which is a strong ocean current known to cause sharp changes in local weather, and this is often what many people experience when passing through – including Gernon.
