The Plymouth Road Runner remains and endures as a muscle car icon.

In fact, it was the car that single-handedly revived an entire brand.

Recently, a man began work on selling a 1971 unit so that it can possibly be restored.

However, it has been left for over 35 years in a cold storage building.

Plymouth self-revives with Road Runner

The early 1960s were far from kind to Plymouth cars, for a variety of reasons.

Chrysler’s sub-division suffered from quality control problems, as well as outdated styling.

1968 saw the company replace the now-outdated Belvedere.

And the Road Runner was the model that stepped into that breech.

As standard, the muscle car came with a monstrous 6.3-liter V8, producing 335HP.

The Road Runner would speed on to become a massive success for Plymouth.

In fact, 1969 saw the model win the Motor Trend Car of the Year.

The 1970s saw the muscle car decline, mostly due to the global Oil crisis in 1973.

Ultimately, the Road Runner would be discontinued in 1980. However, it had more than left its mark.

Man gets to work on selling 1971 Road Runner

Recently, an interesting example of the 1971 muscle car came up for sale.

An eBay seller called dajaaenterprises listed the car for $9,500.

1971 examples of the Road Runner are quite rare, with only 14,200 ever built.

Plus, it’s unknown how many examples ever survived.

Despite requiring a complete overhaul, this one comes with a lot of extra equipment.

The seller claims in his listing that ‘all parts are there to be included with the car.’

One important factor to note here is the engine, or more specifically, the lack thereof.

Yup, this particular Road Runner does not come with the factory Hemi engine.

If it did, it would certainly be worth an absolute fortune.

That being said, this is still an extremely cool car, and would be a great project for the right person.

We hope it sells and that someone can restore this Plymouth to its former glory.
