This Colorado man bought a Porsche 911 996 with 357,000 miles and no service history, so he gave it a service check-up to see what he was dealing with.

YouTuber Ryan’s Motorwerks secured himself a 2003 Porsche 911 996.2.

But with no service history to hand, he was at the mercy of the previous owner.

He had no idea whether he’d be lumbered with a ‘bore score ridden boat anchor’ or if he’d landed himself his dream car.

A Porsche 911 996 with 357,000 miles and no service history – how bad could it possibly be?

If there’s two things you don’t want when buying a used car, it’s high mileage and a bad service history.

One man found that out the hard way when he snagged himself a 120,000-mile Ferrari 360.

But for Ryan, the issue went a step further – there was no service history to speak of.

So he had no clue what was lying in wait for him.

There was only one thing for it – he had to do a full service check.

That meant draining the oil, checking the filter, pulling out the spark plugs, and inspecting the cylinders.

There seemed to be a consistent theme throughout the inspection – there were problems, but it might not be the nightmare scenario you’d envision for a car of this mileage.

The oil was a little dark, but ‘not looking too bad’ on the whole.

Likewise, the filter was showing its age, but nothing worth getting stressed over.

It was a similar story with the spark plugs.

Using a borescope, Ryan also had a peek inside the cylinders.

Nobody would be describing this as a scenic view – it was very murky, and made the internal walls hard to make out in their entirety.

But from what he saw, he didn’t see any ‘catastrophic damage’.

When he got to the engine, he noted it was in suspiciously good shape, considering it’d been put through more than 300,000 miles.

“I don’t think this is the original engine,” Ryan speculated.

“You’d think that’d be a little more damage, so I have a little bit more homework to do that in that regard.”

So far, no buyer’s remorse in sight.

Which is good, because that’s never a good feeling – as the guy who bought this 1962 Chevy Corvette knows all too well.

What was the final verdict on this high-mileage car?

Across the board, the story was very much the same.

There were signs of wear to be found, but nothing that would bring on the dreaded buyer’s remorse.

On the whole, Ryan was very happy with the car.

“I took it for a little joy ride, and it feels awesome,” he said.

“No new warning lights, no misfires.”

All’s well that ends well, right?

It’s always a bit of a gamble with buying used cars – it certainly was with this $300,000 Mercedes SLR McLaren.
