This is the new Porsche 911 Carrera S, available as a coupe or a convertible, slotted right between the 911 Carrera and the 911 Carrera GTS.
It has more power, an upgraded braking system and a (lightly) redesigned cabin.
It also has revised price tag.
But the news is better than you think.

The Porsche 911 Carrera S personifies the saying ‘meet the new boss, same as the old boss’
Everyone knows three things about the Porsche 911: the engine is in the middle, breaking down the complicated 911 line-up requires a PhD, and each new model never deviates from the older model.
Porsche never makes any dramatic changes from one Porsche 911 to the next.
Having said that, according to Porsche, the new Carrera S matches the performance of the previous GTS (ie, the one before the hybrid model).
In the same way an iPhone 16 more or less matches the performance of the old 15 Pro.
But leaving Apple aside for a second, the new 911 Carrera S puts out 473bhp from its 3.0-liter flat-six and Porsche says it can do 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 191mph – equivalent to 307km/h.
However, unlike the GT3 and the Carrera T, it only comes with an automatic gearbox.
Proof that BMW isn’t wrong when it says the manual gearbox is dying.
Cosmetically, there are new alloy wheels, 20 inches at the front and 21 at the rear, a new sports exhaust system and a cabin that’s been freshened up but looks more or less like the old one.
But, with the new car, customers can upholster the glovebox, side panels and seat base in leather, which is something they couldn’t do with the old model.
Breaking down the 911 line-up
There are about a dozen different new cars you can buy that are called Porsche 911.
The Porsche 911 Carrera S is right in the middle, more powerful and expensive than the standard Carrera, but less so than the GT3.
This also gives us the chance to talk about the price.
In the U.S., the Carrera S starts from $146,400 for the coupe and and $159,600 for the convertible.
This is not too bad for a car like this one.
Not that many years ago, the cheapest (new) 911 you could buy cost less than $100,000.
Those days are long gone but, in an era when even Honda (with Sony) is making cars that costs six figures, $150,000 for a new 911 with these performance figures isn’t bad.
