The Porsche 911 Cup has been a key part of Porsche’s racing heritage since 1990, and the latest version of the car looks set to continue that tradition with significant upgrades.

The new 992.2 generation combines improved aerodynamics, enhanced safety features, and more advanced electronics.

Porsche has focused on refining the car’s handling and performance, while also ensuring it’s more environmentally friendly with the use of sustainable fuel.

The new Porsche 911 Cup will be used in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and in selected Carrera Cup series from the start of the 2026 season.

One of the most produced racing cars

The Porsche 911 has been the foundation of the company’s one-make racing series for decades.

The series now spans more than 12 countries, and the 911 GT3 Cup has become one of the most produced racing cars, with over 5,000 units built.

The new 992.2 model is produced alongside the regular 911s at Porsche’s factory in Stuttgart, where there are no retakes on the assembly line.

The company prides itself on the efficiency of the assembly process, which takes just under eight hours per car.

Development of the 992.2 began in January 2024, with Porsche Motorsport testing the car at various locations including Monza, Lausitzring, and its Weissach test track.

A focus on improving aerodynamics and vehicle handling has been central to the updates, with changes made to the car’s brakes, safety systems, and power transmission.

Michelin continues to supply tires for the 911 Cup, ensuring consistent performance across a range of conditions.

Feedback from global drivers and racing teams has been crucial in shaping these improvements.

Making motorsports environmentally sustainable

Sustainability is another key feature of the new 911 Cup.

The car has been tested using the same eFuel blend that powers the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, meeting new FIA standards for renewable fuels.

This fuel mix, which includes 79.7 percent renewable components, reduces CO2 emissions by 66 percent compared to traditional fossil fuels.

It’s part of Porsche’s broader effort to make motorsport more environmentally responsible while maintaining high performance.

With experienced drivers like Bastian Buus, Laurin Heinrich, and Klaus Bachler involved in testing, the new 911 Cup promises to be a more refined, safer, and greener race car for the future.
