In what was nearly a $175k disaster, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS was once dangling by a thread over a canal in the Netherlands, and its story remains a mystery to this day.

Porsche has always flirted in the area between ‘cool’ and ‘luxury’, fluttering its eyelashes towards the supercars but turning its nose up at its lesser rivals.

But this Porsche 911 GT3 RS wasn’t turning its nose up, it was nose-diving into a canal instead.

The $175k sports car rolled off the end of the Porsche Centrum dealership’s courtyard and ended up sipping water from the Oostwetering canal.

This Porsche 911 GT3 RS nearly had a wet nightmare

Famously, cars can’t swim and don’t do very well in overly wet conditions.

Once a car submerges, it’s very likely going to be the end of its tenure as a road vehicle.

That said, some have been built to withstand water, and others have been revived after drowning, but these instances are few and far between.

So when this Porsche 911 GT3 RS decided it wanted to drink from a local canal, it struck fear into the local dealership.

Originally snapped back in 2016, the two-door coupe was found hanging off the concrete at the back of a dealership and was balancing with its nose in the water.

Likely dangling by a thread with something underneath the car being caught on the edge, the car was almost submerged.

However, it survived.

In a now-deleted post, managing director Hans Van der Valk reportedly told local outlet RTL that it was a human error, but the car was recovered.

The car was parked on the waterfront, and a mechanic made a mistake when trying to get the vehicle.

“That is very unfortunate, but it can happen. When there are people, mistakes are made,” he was reported to have said at the time.

An employee also told NL Times that the car was recovered without much damage thanks to the rear-engine build, and its new owner was called in to assess the situation.

The 911 GT3 RS is back and better than ever

Since the series was relaunched in 2022, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS has been in fine voice.

Appearing around the world with wild paint jobs and incredible upgrade kits, the popular sports car has even lent its hand in doing taxi runs for a handful of lucky LAX airport commuters.

We hope, though, the other 911s out there will be kept out of the water, no matter how thirsty they get.

Chug on gasoline or something, gosh.
