The all-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo S set an unusual record in the new action movie Den of Thieves 2: Panthera.
We call it a record, but it would perhaps be more accurate to call it a precedent.
According to the movie director, the Taycan was the first EV to feature in a Hollywood car chase.
The best part about it is they did not give the car fake exhaust sounds.

The reason why Den of Thieves features a Porsche Taycan
No electric vehicle had ever been the protagonist of a climactic car chase before before the Porsche Taycan Turbo S.
The first thing that we should point out is that the car is blissfully silent in the movie.
Some people don’t like the fact that EVs are quiet, which is a totally fair point.
But the only thing worse than a quiet EV in a movie is probably a quiet EV in a movie that produces a ridiculous fake sound added in the edit.
Some EVs are fitted with fake exhaust sounds, the upcoming Ferrari and the Charger Daytona spring to mind, but the Taycan isn’t, which means adding one in post production would’ve sounded twice as fake.
As for the reason why they picked this car, it was an idea that Den of Thieves director Christian Gudecast came up with.
“I wanted an electric car [in the movie]. So I wrote in the script specifically the new Porsche Taycan,” Gudecast said.
“Porsche came to our rescue. The rigs they’ve built for us, it had never been done before.
“It is the first electric car car chase ever.”
The 938-horsepower Porsche Taycan Turbo S will be the star of the final showdown and car chase near the end of the movie.
So the bad news is that some Porsche Taycans may have been harmed in the making of this movie.
About Den of Thieves 2: Panthera
Den of Thieves 2: Panthera is the sequel to the 2018 film Den of Thieves.
Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr. – the son of rapper Ice Cube – reprise their respective roles as ‘Big Nick’ O’Brien and Donnie Wilson, but 50 Cent won’t be back after starring in the first movie.
The movie is already out, and Gudecast said three more sequels might be made.
This shouldn’t surprise us because creating a franchise out of a successful movie and then milking it as much as possible is Hollywood’s MO.
Then again, as the man behind the real story that inspired the movie Gran Turismo once said, movies in Hollywood have a way of carving their own path.
“Once the Hollywood train leaves the Hollywood station, there’s no stopping it,” he told us when we interviewed him.
