The Plymouth De Luxe is an extremely cool car by the best of standards.
But a De Luxe found after almost 50 years in storage is something else entirely.
A post-WWII Plymouth De Luxe has just been found in an epic barn find in the US.
And in even better news, it’s been found in mint condition.

America’s car economy was in an absolute boom in the aftermath of World War II.
It’s involvement in the six-year global conflict saw the US become the world’s premier economic superpower.
Of course, this had a dramatic knock-on effect on almost every other industry.
Following the end to the war, the American population saw a rapid rise in living standards.
Many more families in America could afford their own vehicles, and demand soared.
Plymouth was all too happy to meet that growing demand.

Interestingly, the Plymouth De Luxe was actually first produced prior to the war.
In fact, it was first released in 1933 during the Great Depression.
Following the war, manufacturers reverted to consumer production – meaning the De Luxe made a return.
From 1941 (and following the war), Plymouth produced the car in two different variants.
The De Luxe and the Special De Luxe were the two trim levels offered by Plymouth.
Sadly, cars like the De Luxe were pretty obsolete by the 1950s – because of Detroit.
The turn of the new decade saw the release of faster, more aggressive cars.
And it makes today’s story all the more utterly fascinating.
A video was released recently on YouTube by the guys at the Iron City Garage channel.
And they just so happened to find a well-preserved, 1947 Plymouth De Luxe.

Back in the 1970s, the original owner put this car into storage.
And now, 47 years later, it has finally seen the light of day once again.
Despite being well preserved, this Plymouth De Luxe needs more than just some soap and water.
Given that it’s been preserved for nearly five decades, it has rusted quite a bit.
However, for a car that’s been inside so long, it is in truly excellent condition.
Even the original paint job and white-wall tyres look more dusty than anything else.
We think we speak for everyone when we say how much we would love to see this car restored.
