POV footage has shown the man behind the phantom F1 car driving it along the autobahn, after it was part of a six-year mystery.

The car has been on the road in the Czech Republic since 2019, and its driver has been a mystery despite it appearing on the road several times.

The team behind the car has put it through its paces in the past, seeing how fast they could get it to go down an Autobahn.

Police recently caught its driver after years of avoiding them, but it probably isn’t the last we’ll see of this car on the highway.

The phantom F1 car is unleashed on an Autobahn

This footage from August 2025 shows the car unleashed down a Czech highway.

An amusing opening sees the F1 car pull into a gas station before heading back out.

In reality, the car is actually a Dallara GP2/08 used in the GP2 series, but dressed to resemble a Ferrari F1 car.

Of course, this isn’t a car that is road legal, otherwise we’d probably see more people doing this!

But weirdly, the car looks right at home as it heads onto the highway and merges with traffic.

And as they were on the Autobahn, the driver of the car could get it up to some impressive speeds.

The driver was recently caught by the police

In a more recent video, the driver of the fake F1 car was actually caught by police.

They had been trying for years to catch them.

But they could never catch up to the car or locate its driver.

When they did finally get hold of him, it wasn’t the easiest for them.

The police had chased the driver to his property.

However, a bit of a standoff occurred, and the video documented it.

The driver did get out of the car and hand himself over, but he still kept his identity a secret.

With that having happened, we wonder what will be next for this phantom F1 car.

Despite being tracked down, this fake F1 car might yet grace the roads of the Czech Republic once again.
