A rare 1985 Camaro IROC-Z Convertible was rescued after nearly 30 years in an Alabama barn.

This thing hasn’t seen the light of day since 1997, sitting inside a barn collecting cobwebs.

That’s where YouTuber Dylan McCool found it, and realized that he had quite the job on his hands.

The car’s white top had yellowed, the interior had faded – but was there still some life in this dormant husk?

This 1985 Camaro IROC-Z Convertible had been hidden away for 28 years

When the IROC-Z rocked up in showrooms in 1985, it was judged as being the ‘sharpest’ Camaro since 1969, autoevolution reported.

Its base V8 could produce 155hp, but an option L69 ‘High Output’ 305 jumped things up to 190hp.

Only 2,497 Camaros received the latter in 1985, adding $680 to the sticker price.

As if that wasn’t enough to make this IROC-Z a rare breed, there’s the question of its roof.

Motor historians estimate that around 200 IROC-Z became convertibles in 1985, all modified by outside contractors.

But enough history lessons – how was this car holding up in 2025?

Well, not great to be honest, but that’s what 28 years of solitude will do to a car.

The top was yellowed, the interior was faded, and there was more dust on this car than a neglected library book.

Things weren’t looking great down low either, as the front tires were in a poor state.

It looked as if though somebody had attempted some repair work on the engine back in 2003 – a carburetor tag from that year being the primary clue – but the car had otherwise gone untouched.

But all hope wasn’t lost.

The body was straight and unscarred, McCool could do something with this.

What would it take to bring this car back to life?

Getting the IROC-Z out of the barn was tricky enough, as piles of junk needed moving to make it accessible.

There was the matter of maneuvering it out of the barn without scratching it, and loading it onto the trailer.

All in all, it was a precise operation.

And it still wasn’t over – he had to actually fix it now.

But that is for a future video, and we frankly can’t wait to see how he does.

It’s always great to see a car that’s been sitting not so pretty for years being given a second chance.

One guy hit it lucky when he found $30 million worth of classic cars that had sat untouched for 40 years.

And who could forget this epic Aston Martin that finally saw the light of day after 30 years inside a New York barn?
