US-based company Regent promises its 12-passenger Viceroy seaglider will offer affordable and fast travel over water.
The zero-emission, electric seaglider could drastically reduce travel time between coastal destinations.
Trips between Miami and West Palm Beach typically take around 90 minutes by road, and while it’s quicker by helicopter, it’s also a lot more expensive.
However, the Viceroy seaglider could manage the journey in around 30 minutes, and still keep costs low.

If you’re unfamiliar with the term ‘seaglider’, it’s sort of like a cross between a plane and a boat.
Regent explains that its Viceroy seaglider is a wing-in-ground-effect craft that flies just above the surface of the water and can offer the sort of high speeds you’d expect from a plane but with the convenience of a boat.

And, because the whole thing is electric, it’s cheap to run, too.
What more could you ask for?
The Viceroy will be able to hit speeds of up to 180mph (289km/h) and service routes of up to 180 miles (289km) with current battery technology.
But this could be more than doubled to 400 miles (643km) with next-generation batteries.
The Viceroy can carry up to 12 passengers per trip or up to 3,500 pounds (1,600 kg) of cargo and is the ideal solution for ‘coastal and island-to-island transportation needs’, according to its creators.
The Viceroy is already attracting plenty of interest from big names including United Airlines and Japan Airlines.
Earlier this month, the company landed one of the largest commercial seaglider orders to date with UrbanLink Air Mobility, a South Florida-based advanced air and maritime mobility company.

UrbanLink ordered 27 Viceroys in the fall last year, but has since increased the order to 47.
The seagliders will be rolled out to UrbankLink operations in South Florida and Puerto Rico, with first deliveries set to take place in 2027.
In a press release, UrbanLink said it was ‘proud’ to bring the ‘revolutionary technology’ to passengers.
The release also claimed that the seaglider operations based in Miami could serve up to 4.3 million passengers a year.
