Vintage race vehicles are easily some of the most recognizable within the car world, but this replica had a unique start to life, all thanks to a Mazda.

Based on a 1950s classic, the car consists of a humble MX-5 chassis, which has been adapted to mimic a Jaguar D-Type.

Listed on Facebook Marketplace, the car is no usual second-hand snap-up.

Instead, thousands of hours and an abundance of new parts mean this car pays homage to Le Mans with a mighty MX twist.

This is a Mazda like you’ve never seen it before

When the brand Mazda comes to mind, you’d usually think of a standard sedan.

However, this model is set to change your mind, thanks to its complete overhaul.

Over on Facebook Marketplace, a 2002 Mazda MX-5 Mk 2 was spotted for sale, but it actually looks nothing like its base model.

In fact, the seller noted that it was a result of ‘thousands of hours invested over seven years’ that produced a replica of a 1950s race car.

“Key components involved the removal of the MX-5 body and the creation of a marine ply skeleton supporting an unpainted aluminium skin and a wraparound polycarbonate windscreen,” explained the listing.

The inside was given a whole new lease of life too, with the passenger seat removed and the driver’s seat recovered.

“A four-point harness has been added, and the original roll-over bar remains in situ.

“The underside of the car has been sealed with Waxoyl, aluminium bodywork has been coated and has rust protection,” stated the seller.

The listing also went on to explain that the fuel pump has been overhauled, along with all suspension parts and other components.

The car really is completely different from the base too, with new wheels and tyres and even a replacement battery being fitted to make it roar.

The inspiration? Vintage Le Mans

Now, we know what you’re thinking: that car looks oddly familiar.

Well, it turns out that the car is actually a replica of a 1950s Le Mans car, and while the listing didn’t exactly state the model, it bears a striking resemblance to the Jaguar D-Type.

The D-Type sped straight to success during its run in the 1950s, and thanks to its unique shell, it’s easily one of the most recognizable out there.

The listing for the Le Mans Mazda currently sits at $4,000 – so be quick.

It should be noted, though, that the car was ‘Cat N before work’, which means it was written off after a collision.
