Robocop played a key role in many 80s and 90s kids’ childhoods, but it also turns out that it helped to launch a rather iconic vehicle in the US.

In the popular series, the car in question was adaptive, responsive, and cleverly used by characters, so it’s no wonder that a toy line followed.

From fighting crime to keeping people safe and simply cruising, the transport method proved to be versatile.

And, ever since, gearheads have been drawn to the idea of sourcing one to call their own.

Robocop played a part in launching this iconic American vehicle

When it comes to launching cars, many companies utilise commercials and trends, but back in the 90s, one TV wonder helped a certain US vehicle.

Robocop first came on screens in 1987, with various other movies and series following its success with fans, but it turns out that when the show aired in 1994, it also helped launch the Hummer H1.

The huge Hummer is hard not to instantly recognise and actually started life as a military vehicle thanks to its unique capabilities, and subsequently, Robocop helped to showcase it to fans far and wide.

In the show, the Hummer H1 was used in a few ways as it hurtled into the spotlight, including as a police vehicle and even an ambulance.

In fact, many different variations were used on screen, making the vehicle appear to be adaptable and useful in a number of scenarios.

The H1 was also put in amongst other vehicles, too, such as the Mustang, proving the fleet of cars to be impressive, no doubt fuelling car fans’ interests even further.

And, thanks to the success of Robocop, a toy line with two H1s was also launched, enabling the vehicle to gain even more popularity.

So, turns out that watching the series way back when was good for many gearheads’ brains after all.

The Hummer is instantly recognisable

You have to admit, the Hummer isn’t a vehicle that you could miss on the road.

From huge wheels to a distinct, unique exterior, they are identifiable instantly and, in turn, are loved by many gearheads.

For example, we bet you didn’t know that the world’s biggest Hummer is as long as a humpback whale and makes other cars look like toys.

We also can’t forget the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger drives around LA in his doorless Hummer H1 with a reason for the vehicle being fully open to the elements with no doors.
