Romain Grosjean has just been reunited with his melted Formula 1 helmet.
But it’s not just any old headgear – it’s the lid that saved his life five years ago.

And the helmet helped save his life.

Romain Grosjean reconnects with his melted helmet
Romain Grosjean recently made a very emotional reunion with an object from his past.
And it was something that directly helped to save his life.
The French ex-Formula 1 driver was recently reunited with his melted helmet.
In a post on Instagram, Grosjean revealed that he had been reunited with his equipment.
“Five years after November 29, 2020, I got reunited with my race helmet,” the former Haas driver said.
“I didn’t know if I was ready to see it, but my kids really wanted to understand how I got so well protected in the fire and what did happen that night.”
The current IndyCar driver made a special mention of appreciation for his equipment suppliers.
“I’ll forever be grateful to Bell Racing and Alpinestars for protecting me so well in that moment.”
“Life goes on, and we forget, but that reminds me how much we should make the most of our lives every day,” Grosjean said in signing off.
French driver faces fearsome fireball in Bahrain GP
If you’re not a Formula 1 fan, you might be wondering what exactly happened.
So, allow us to explain – because it is extremely important.
The French driver made news across the world when he suffered his horrendous accident in 2020.
During the opening lap of the Bahrain GP, Grosjean tore through the safety barriers.
His Haas F1 car split in two and was quickly engulfed in an enormous fireball by the side of the track.
Grosjean spent 27 seconds engulfed in the fireball, yet miraculously escaped.

He got out of the wreckage having suffered nothing more than burns on the back of his hands.
Many remarked at the miracle of Grosjean escaping his car relatively unscathed.
For many, the addition of the Formula 1 Halo safety device saved Grosjean’s life.
It managed to deflect the safety barrier and give Grosjean an avenue of escape.
But the importance of his Bell helmet and Alpinestars fireproof racing suit cannot be overstated.
And Romain Grosjean’s melted helmet is a testament to the importance of that equipment.
