The ruler of Dubai has added the world’s most expensive $15,000,000 license plate to the front of his Land Rover Defender.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has been pictured driving a new Land Rover Defender Octa wearing a license plate so valuable it actually costs more than the SUV itself.
The image was shared by Jaguar Land Rover SVO director Jamal Hameedi, who confirmed the ruler received the very first Defender Octa.
It seems that, in a city where Bugattis are daily drivers, it’s not your car that makes the statement – even though it’s spectacular – but what’s bolted onto the bumper.

This is the world’s most expensive $15,000,000 license plate
Heritage license plates are a surprising status symbol that a lot of people don’t think of, because they’re too busy looking at the supercar they’re usually attached to.
Single-digit plates are the most coveted of all license plates, often treated as heirlooms rather than registration numbers.
Many never even reach public auction, passing between elite owners or remaining permanently attached to royalty, especially in Dubai, which is the case with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s plate.

The ruler of Dubai’s family is no stranger to an insane amount of luxury, like his son’s crazily luxurious superyacht.
To understand the value, you only need to look at precedent.
In 2023, a different Dubai plate reportedly sold for around $15 million, setting a global record.
Plates with fewer digits routinely fetch millions, and anything rarer than that is considered priceless.
And in this case, the mystery plate turns out to be as powerful as it could possibly be, as it carries a single digit – the number 1.

The ruler of Dubai has a new Land Rover Defender Octa
That iconic plate now sits on the front of a Defender Octa, Land Rover’s most extreme version of its legendary off-roader.
The Octa produces 626hp, and can sprint from 0 to 60 miles an hour in around four seconds, numbers that would have sounded crazy for a chunky Defender not long ago.
It also features heavily upgraded suspension, massive tires, and off-roading capability, making it just as comfortable tearing across desert dunes as it is rolling through the streets of Dubai.

The same plate has previously been spotted on a Mercedes-AMG G-Class, but this latest sighting confirms it has found a new home, paired with the ruler’s newest and most hardcore SUV yet.
Luxury SUVs look like they’re the newest flex, and this one is clearly number one.
