Rust bucket milk truck actually hits 114mph on the drag strip

This rusty old milk truck may look like it’s seen better days but it can top speeds of 114mph (183km) on the track. 

If you ever needed a reminder to never judge a book by its cover, then surely it’s this.

The retro truck has been modified by a group of car enthusiasts from Illinois who decided to swap out its old engine and replace it with something bigger and more powerful. 

The result is this truly one-off vehicle that certainly stands out in a crowd… or on a race track.

The milk truck has been kitted out with a big-block V8

There are plenty of modified trucks and vans out there, such as this sleeper cab that’s now a camper van or this 1953 Grumman Curbside bread truck that’s been transformed into a unique home-from-home. 

However, while trucks becoming campers isn’t too unusual – trucks becoming racers is a whole other story. 

But that’s exactly what car enthusiasts Nick, his dad Mark, and uncle Bill decided to do when they got their hands on this vintage milk truck. 

Nick appeared on the Ridiculous Rides YouTube channel where he shared that the truck’s old engine was removed and replaced with a 469 cubic-inch big-block V8, which is further boosted by a couple of turbochargers. Beautiful. 

The unlikely hot rod is a hit with car enthusiasts

All in all, the unassuming-looking milk truck hot rod can crank out 815 horsepower and hits a top speed of more than 114mph. 

As such, the milk truck and its owner spend quite a bit of time down the drag strip with their unique daily driver. 

The milk truck isn’t just fast, though, it’s been given a through restoration by Nick and his family so it now boasts an air conditioning system, some cool bucket seats and a top-notch stereo system. 

As you can imagine, the vehicle is a big hit with car lovers. 

“Everybody loves it. The older generation loves it because they’ve seen the milk truck driving around and delivering milk,” Nick told Ridiculous Rides. 

“To see it in hot rod form, it makes a lot of people happy.”

It sure does.
