Shohei Ohtani is the biggest star in Major League Baseball.

The Japanese superstar, coming off his first World Series win with the Los Angeles Dodgers, also made history of his own.

In the 2024 season, Ohtani became the first player to go 50/50 – that is, achieving 50 home runs, as well as 50 stolen bases in the same season.

Despite the fame, the fortune and the plaudits, LA’s biggest star drives surprisingly modest cars.

Ohtani-san! Who is Shohei Ohtani?

In case you don’t follow Major League Baseball, there’s someone we need to introduce you to.

Meet Shohei Ohtani. A once-in-a-generation baseball superstar.

After signing with the LA Angels in 2018, “Shotime” produced one of the best one-two punches in Major League history, alongside future Hall-of-Famer Mike Trout.

He is also one of the best two-way players in the history of the sport.

Essentially, he’s able to pitch to Cy Young award-level standard, as well as winning unanimous MVP awards in both the American League – AL – and the National League – NL.

In December 2023, Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, then the largest contract in the history of professional sports.

In reality, Ohtani “only” makes $2 million per season, because he agreed to defer $68 million per year of his contract until after the deal ends.

This is to allow the Dodgers to avoid going over the Competitive Balance Tax – basically allowing them to still be competitive and sign the best players.

So, what does MLB’s biggest star drive? A NASA rocket? A six-wheeled Mercedes G63 AMG?

Not quite.

Ohtani’s daily driver is remarkably subtle

Much like his personality, Shohei Ohtani’s taste in cars is modest and understated.

Ohtani’s daily driver around the streets of the City of Angels is a Porsche Taycan Turbo S.

Porsche‘s new, all-electric supercar is a thing of real beauty.

Electric motors at the front and the rear combine to produce 952bhp.

If Ohtani’s in a rush to get to Dodger Stadium, he needn’t worry about that either.

The Taycan Turbo S is good for a 0-60 time of 2.4 seconds, as well as a top speed of 162MPH.

What other cars does Ohtani have in his collection?

Quite a few, as it happens.

Aside from his incredible Porsche Taycan Turbo S, Ohtani also has an Aston Martin DB11.

Oh, and a Rolls Royce Wraith.

And a Bentley Continental GT.

And a Tesla Model X P90D.

Rounding off the list is a Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG… because of course there is.

This might be one of the best sports star car collections we’ve seen here at Supercar Blondie.

Domo arigato, Ohtani-san.
