Sir David Attenborough turned 99 today – but he has never driven or passed his driving test.
The beloved British broadcaster and natural historian has achieved a lot in his life.
He’s been knighted by Queen Elizabeth and has produced countless nature documentaries.
But having a set of wheels hasn’t been at the top of his priority list.

For celebrities, having an impressive car collection is almost a necessity.
We’ve seen a lot of them over the years – from stars as varied as Shaquille O’Neal to Zac Efron.
There are even some celebrities who own cars but can’t drive them, like the Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel.
But it’s not often that we come across a famous face who can’t drive at all.

Well, it turns out that Sir David Attenborough is one such person.
He’s been all over the world and gotten up close and personal with amazing species of animals.
But he has never passed a driving test, or driven a car.
You may think you have figured out why he avoids getting behind the wheel.
After all, for the 99-year-old biologist, the environment is of the utmost importance.
So perhaps he doesn’t drive to be more eco-friendly?

That isn’t the case.
“I don’t run a car, have never run a car. I could say that this is because I have this extremely tender environmentalist conscience, but the fact is I hate driving,” Attenborough once admitted.
In another interview with The Times, he backtracked a little bit on this claim.
When asked whether he’d considered buying an electric car, he gave a definitive answer.
“I don’t drive. I’ve never driven. Well, that’s not true, I can drive, but I’ve never driven.”
How exactly one figures out they can drive without driving is something we can’t quite figure out.
But he’s a smart man, so we’ll take his word for it.

Not that he hasn’t had his share of hair raising experiences inside a car, as he once admitted to being inside a vehicle that had been charged at by a rhino.
To most people, that would be terrifying.
But Attenborough described it as ‘tiresome’, according to The Guardian.
So there you have it.
The man who has survived being charged by a rhino isn’t all that keen on getting a car.
To each their own.
