Move over Indy 500, Wienermobiles are about to make motorsports history.

On May 23, six of Oscar Mayer’s iconic hot dog-shaped vehicles will hit the track at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first-ever Wienie 500.

Yes, really.

These massive meat mobiles will battle it out over two laps of the 2.5-mile oval, the same track that will host the sold-out Indy 500 just two days later.

Each of the six Wienermobiles represents a different regional hot dog style.

  • #1 Chi Dog – Midwest
  • #2 New York Dog – East Coast
  • #3 Slaw Dog – Southeast
  • #4 Sonoran Dog – Southwestern
  • #5 Seattle Dog – Northwest
  • #6 Chilli Dog – South

Just don’t expect the Wienermobiles to be drag racing F1 cars anytime soon.

After all, the six Wienermobiles usually spend their days traversing the country for promotional events, rather than racing each other.

Each Wienermobile stretches 27 feet long, stands 11 feet tall, and rides on a chassis similar to a UPS truck.

Under the hood, each vehicle is powered by a Chevrolet V8 engine, which has enough power to move a monster tank, but not necessarily very quickly.

It’s more about style than speed, which is what makes it so fun.

Driving these giant dogs are Oscar Mayer’s famous ‘Hotdoggers’, its brand ambassadors.

For race day, they will suit up in custom Hotdogger racing gear for what might be the most whimsical competition in racing history.

The trophy presentation will be conducted in the ‘Wiener’s Circle’, complete with a condiment spray, instead of the customary champagne shower.

As part of the fun, Oscar Mayer is inviting fans across the nation to get in on the action.

In a collaboration with DraftKing, fans can predict the outcome of this one-of-a-kind race, winning a share of the total cash prize of $10,000.

If you’re already going to check out the legendary Indy 500 this year, you might as well go a bit earlier to check out the Wienie 500.
