Over in Japan, SkyDrive announced it had partnered with Suzuki, and now eVTOL taxis are even closer after Expo 2025 flights took place.

The demonstration flights were successful, and loops lasted a few minutes as they soared over ocean bays.

But that’s not the only exciting eVTOL news, as September will see more flights take place in a big leap for the industry.

Elsewhere in the aviation space, with greener tech and technology advancements are speeding up, too.

Suzuki and Skydrive enter airspace with eVTOL taxis

It’s no secret that electric modes of transport are taking over, with a shift away from gas-powered vehicles happening quickly.

This creation, though, may be one of the most exciting yet, and it’s all do to with air taxis.

Electrical Vertical Take-Off and Landing taxis, AKA eVTOL, are gearing up to be the next biggest mode of transport.

After the company announced its partnership with Suzuki to manufacture the flying taxis, test flights took place at Expo 2025 in Osaka, and the company shared exciting footage from the successful test flights.

The company said that it was ‘pleased to announce the safe and successful completion of a series of demonstration flights of the SKYDRIVE conducted at the Expo 2025, Osaka, Kansai, Japan.’

The flight loops only lasted a few minutes, but enabled the electric aircraft to venture out of the venue where the Expo was held and up over Osaka Bay and the ocean

But that’s not the only exciting news coming from SkyDrive and its eVTOL taxis.

As we enter a new month, the company will fly more demonstration flights from Oskako Vertioport.

“Starting on September 15, SkyDrive will perform demonstration flights of the SKYDRIVE Model SD-05 at the Osakako Vertiport, a specialist eVTOL facility,” explained the company further in a statement.

The aircraft industry has other exciting developments alongside SkyDrive’s taxis

Thanks to the shift towards greener energy and EVs, the aviation industry is rapidly advancing.

From supersonic speeds to simple, greener flights that hope to produce lower levels of emissions, companies are adapting to the times.

For example, one US company’s electric air taxi managed to break a record by flying 55 miles in a 31-minute piloted flight.

Additionally, we can’t forget when Electra’s hybrid-electric plane pulled off an incredible take-off and landing on a runway that was just 150ft long.
