A son has shared to his reaction to a YouTube channel restoring his dad’s Studebaker after it spent 47 years on an Illinois farm.

Vice Grip Garage took on the challenge of restoring a Studebaker Champion that had been left parked for 47 years.

Despite having been left in a barn on a farm for decades, the car didn’t need as much work as you might expect.

Either way, the Vice Grip Garage team got the job done.

Reviving an old Studebaker

The third generation Studebaker was produced between 1948 and 1952.

This particular car hadn’t been driven on the road since 1976, where it stayed for 45 years.

Old classic cars getting brought back to life is a thrilling thing, just like this General Lee being given a new lease on life.

In 2021, it was brought and placed in a field, bringing it up to a total of 47 years not being driven.

Given this length of inactivity, the engine was understandably resistant to starting up again, but they eventually got it going again.

The car has its own original engine – a 170-cubic-inch which produced 80hp originally, and 85hp upon its 1950 upgrade.

But with not much in the way of rust, the car was relatively easy to get back into working order.

It was given a makeover of course, to ensure it looked brand new.

The owner’s son reacts to the car’s transformation

Once up and running, the car looks in good shape.

“Up running and driving after nearly five decades, this is a cute little Studebaker Champion,” Derek, the channel’s host, concluded.

He then asked his audience of two million subscribers in what condition they would want him to sell the car.

Among the responses in the comments section was one from the owner’s son.

He wrote: “Derek thank you for getting my Dad’s Studebaker running are family really thanks you! Would really like to see part 2.

“Polish the paint and chrome maybe even redo the interior. Thanks again!”

Father and son moments are often shared via cars, as we have seen with this dad who built his son a Lamborghini out of wood.

Others weighed in with their thoughts.

“Pressure wash, shine the paint, new tires and fix the fuel system, love watching you revive these old forgotten vehicles, so much history there,” one viewer said.

Another commented: “Love this car. It would be great to see her cleaned up and shining like a diamond and taking her to town.”
