This is the story of a father, a son, and a 1968 Pontiac GTO, that came full circle after 29 years.

The Pontiac GTO might just be another classic car for others, but for this father-and-son duo, it was way more than that.

So the story takes us back in time when Alan Vandyke, who restored the car in the early 90s, had to sell it in 1999 to support his growing family.

Alan thought it was a final goodbye to his beloved car, but his son had other plans.

Son surprised Dad with his 1968 Pontiac GTO

This heart-melting story was documented on YouTube by the son, Austin Van Dyke, on his YouTube channel.

In 2019, nearly 20 years after the car had been sold, Austin Van Dyke began his search for it.

To start with, he gathered some old photos of the car and sent them to his contacts, who he believed could locate its current whereabouts.

However, all his efforts were in vain.

He even hired a private investigator to help with the search, but despite their efforts, they couldn’t find any new information about the 1968 Pontiac GTO.

Reunion with the car

Despite the failures, Austin wasn’t the one to back down, and his search took an unexpected turn when he discovered that the GTO had been registered in Denmark.

The VIN number found on the old receipt made it possible for him to locate the car.

The new owner was soon contacted by Austin, who refused to sell the car, breaking Austin’s heart.

But things took a turn when the owner sadly passed away in a tragic accident, after which, the family agreed to sell the Pontiac GTO to Austin.

The car was soon shipped back to the US, finally reuniting with its first owner after years.

This reminds us of the Lamborghini Diablo Jota story, where the owner reunited with his car after 20 years.
