A stock 1990s Subaru Forester managed to ‘shame’ a bunch of off-roaders as it tackled an incredibly steep hill climb in California.

A clip shows the silver Subaru take on the steep incline, while fellow off-road enthusiasts watched on.

To add insult to injury, a dually diesel truck had tried the same climb moments earlier, but hadn’t quite managed to make it to the top.

That’s gotta sting.

The 1990s stock Subaru made the steep incline look easy

Usually, when we see footage of vehicles tackling tough, steep terrain, it’s something like this Jeep Gladiator that made it look like gravity had been turned off on a climb in Utah, or this Toyota Land Cruiser taking on the ‘steepest incline’ with ease.

However, a few years back, a 1990s stock Subaru Forester left off-road enthusiasts in shock after it tore up an exceptionally steep test hill at California’s Silver Lake like it was no big deal.

In a clip shared on YouTube by The Random Detour, the silver-colored Subaru can be seen driving up towards the hill at a decent speed before ascending it like a pro.

Onlookers appeared to be seriously impressed by the Subaru’s off-roading capabilities, with the man behind the camera loudly declaring: “Oh my gosh!”

The car managed the climb ‘more than once’

A caption accompanying the clip revealed that the driver of the Subaru actually managed the impressive feat ‘more than once’.

“All stock early-nineties Subaru shames off-roaders as it tools over Test Hill at Silver Lake. He did this more than once without getting stuck,” it read.

“A lot of jaws dropped when he went over the top in the same ruts left by a dually diesel that failed in its attempt just minutes before.”

Fellow YouTube users were left equally impressed by the Subaru’s attempt to ‘shame everyone at test hill’.

“This is the best Subaru marketing campaign I’ve ever seen,” wrote one person.

“Remember, folks, good engineering is neither flashy nor exciting, it just works,” said another.

A third joked: “He didn’t even realise he was participating in the climb, he was just late to work and decided to take a shortcut.”
