The first volume of season 5 of Stranger Things has dropped on Netflix, but a fan has noticed something about the cars that doesn’t quite add up.

There’s a lot to love about the hit show, but many people gravitate towards it for the 80s vibes.

The music, the hair, the fashion…it’s all on full display and it’s glorious.

But there was one aspect of the show’s time period which has left one fan baffled, and it pertains to the use of cars within the show’s universe.

What this Stranger Things fan noticed about one scene

It’s been all the rage since the first volume of season 5 dropped on November 26, hasn’t it?

We’re of course talking about Netflix’s juggernaut hit Stranger Things.

The adventures of Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and all of their rest of their Hawkins friends will be coming to an end very soon.

And with hours of new content dropping onto our TV screens, there’s a lot to dissect.

For example, fans were left speculating about how Steve Harrington could have afforded to buy his 1983 BMW 733i.

At $34,300 brand new, that’s a pricey set of wheels for a teenager who works in an ice cream parlor.

But that’s not the only car conundrum leaving fans scratching their heads.

There’s also the matter of this season 5 scene in which Eleven trains in a car scrapyard.

She needs to be at top form when it comes to her powers.

Got to be on her A-game if she wants to accompany Hopper on a mission to the Upside Down, right?

Well, in the scene put out as sneak peek by Netflix, she is seen flying over rusty cars as she races towards the finish.

Her skills are undoubtedly impressive, but that’s not what grabbed the attention of one fan.

Stranger Things takes time in the 80s, but in the Eleven running scene, all the 80s style vehicles look like they’ve been abandoned for 40 years,” X user SkillCheckk wrote.

“I’m sorry but no car that was made in the last 10 years is completely rusted out unless left in the ocean or [something].”

What could be an explanation for this?

On the face of it, this fan makes a valid point.

We’re used to seeing rusted cars in car graveyards in the real world, but they’ve usually been left to sit for a while.

Remember this lottery winner’s collection that had been left sitting for 30 years?

But to see cars rusted over like this only a few years after they’ve supposedly been released does seem a little strange.

Admittedly, some of these models could be older than the 1980s, so there is a chance the rust is timeline appropriate.

Then again…this is a show with telekinetic powers, evil monsters, and a healthy dose of sci-fi fun.

So we’re sure there’d be some in-universe explanation for these rust buckets.

Perhaps the Upside Down has seeped through into Hawkins and proved ruinous for the abandoned car population?

At any rate, that’d be the least of anyone’s worries if they had Vecna and Demogorgons to contend with.

The first volume of Season 5 of Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
