Like every other car brand, Subaru owners can find keys extremely frustrating.

Trust us, there is nothing worse than having your keys locked inside – with you stuck on the outside.

Like most other car brands, Subaru has worked hard to finally make this a non-issue.

And it turns out that Subaru owners can use a hidden button that unlocks the car without needing the key.

Subaru solves massively annoying problem

Okay – at this point, you might well be wondering what on Earth we are talking about.

Allow us to explain – because this might well resonate with quite a lot of car owners.

You step out of your car and close the door to head off to wherever you are going.

Then you pat your pockets to try and find your keys, but they are not there.

You then groan and sigh as the realization hits you that your keys are locked in your car.

Thankfully, however, car brands have spent time working hard to resolve this issue.

And Subaru is chief among the biggest solution-providers to this migraine-inducing problem.

As a matter of fact, Subaru has developed a feature called Pin Code Access.

It is an optional extra on all new models from the Japanese brand, and it is brilliant.

It uses a five-digit code that is entered into a little button hidden on the vehicle’s trunk.

How does one set up the system for your car?

But how do you set it up, and how does Subaru’s Pin Code Access system actually work?

To set up Pin Code Access, you will need your key fob on hand, and easy access to the pin code button on your Subaru.

You will need that same key fob at hand in order to disable the keyless entry before you can set up the pin code.

Just follow these steps, and you will be able to set up Subaru’s Pin Code Access system on your own car.

First (and with the door open), manually lock your car, then simultaneously press and hold the Unlock and Trunk Release buttons until you hear a chirping sound.

This will disable the keyless access system on your key fob.

Using the key fob, simultaneously press and hold the lock and the pin code button on the rear hatch until you hear another chirp.

Once you click the unlock button on the key fob, you are then ready to enter the pin code.

Using the keypad, press the button as many times as needed to signal the corresponding number, i.e. — one press for the number 1, two for the number 2, and so forth.

Make sure you wait until you hear a chirping sound after each number has been entered before proceeding to the next one.

Once all five numbers have been entered, your Subaru should chirp yet again.

At this point, re-enter your code. If the doors unlock, then re-lock, the code has been successfully saved.

What do you think of the Subaru Pin Code Access system? Should every manufacturer have a similar system in place?
