Suzuki and Microsoft once collaborated to make one of the rarest achievements in the gaming universe, as the SXBox car is an overclocked mod that became the best portable console ever made.
Since the Gameboy and Nintendo DS handheld consoles, gamers have been looking to take their hobby on the road in the best way possible.
Nowadays, thanks to the likes of the Nintendo Switch 2, Steam Deck, and the upcoming Xbox Ally, people can easily take their favorite games on the road.
But it wasn’t always that easy. That is, unless you were driving the Suzuki SXbox.

The SXbox is an on-the-go Microsoft console with a Suzuki
As Xbox has yet to follow in the footsteps of PlayStation and Nintendo in launching a handheld console – its first attempt at this is coming this month with the Xbox Ally.
But many car enthusiasts have attempted to take the hardware and plug it into their vehicles.
Quite successfully, too.
However, back in 2006, Suzuki and Microsoft paired to make the best portable console ever, with the SXbox.
Based on the SX4 and the then-new Xbox 360, this collab saw Suzuki replace the usual dashboard with a complete console rig-up.
Complete with four controller plug-ins for that classic splitscreen fun for all passengers, and a DPad for a steering wheel, the car was entirely built for gamers.
But the screen was the big selling point.

Ensuring that the SXbox had to be stationary to use, the wild car had two screens at either end of the car.
One was built into the hood that could be erected and played on from inside the car, while the other was folded into the boot and could be accessed from outside.
The hilarious concept was showcased at multiple shows in America throughout 2006 and 2007, where it attracted a number of excited gamers and led to tournaments powered by a 1.6-liter gas engine.

Let’s just hope it always steers clear of the red ring of death, not even the most experienced mechanics would be able to save the car from Microsoft’s deathly plague.
Gamers do be gaming, even in cars
It may seem quite strange that the Japanese company decided to opt for Xbox consoles, rather than the native Nintendo, though.
Albeit this gaming lovechild was a product of 2006, and the Wii had only just been born.
That hasn’t stopped other people from making Nintendo cars.
Where Suzuki may have faltered, this Utah man installed a Nintendo 64 into his Chevy 3500 work van to get some Super Smash Bros. action on his lunch breaks.
Others opted for the Wii route, too, choosing to replace a steering wheel with the Mario Kart controls, getting the full experience of the iconic racing game.
There’s love for PlayStation in these gaming car crossovers too, as Sony has even made a full-size RC out of a Nissan GTR and a Bluetooth PS4 controller.
We’ve come a long way from the Game Boy when it comes to on-the-go gaming, but this 2006 Suzuki x Microsoft SXbox might be the best there ever was.
