Despite Apple pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the modern technological age, the new MacBook could be about to revisit the past as a patent reveals a feature that every user misses.

Much like how your iPhone is almost unrecognizable from what it was in 2010, the MacBook has also continued to evolve.

However, the Apple laptop does most of its innovation from the inside.

That is, except for one feature that debuted in 1999, fell off in 2015, and is set for a major comeback ten years later.

Apple patent hints at MacBook Pro reviving glowing logo feature

Back in 2016, the MacBook overhaul saw Apple axe a lot of the exterior options, with the HDMI port, SD Card slot, and MagSafe all being removed in favor of a new, slimmer design.

With it went the glowing logo, a staple of the Apple brand.

But as Apple diverts its attention away from the iPhone following the success of the 17 Pro Max, the MacBook is being lined up for a new OLED design switch-up.

Being one of 20 expected new products to line the Genius store shelves, a 2022 patent has come back to the surface that suggests it will have the iconic glowing logo again.

The Apple patent suggested that a new backlit logo could be coming back, thanks to a ‘partial reflective mirror structure.’

Sketches in the patent indicate this new design is only intended for MacBooks, rather than iPhones or other Apple products.

Forget Year of the Horse, 2026 is the Year of the Mac

The new MacBook Pro only launched in Q4 2025, sending fans into a frenzy with its M5 power chip and macOS software that trumps everything it had in the past.

But with the new M6 chip coming this year, tech gurus are expecting a fresh wave of MacBook releases, including another Pro version with a renewed OLED look.

We could even see a new MacBook be announced on March 4 at the upcoming showcase.

As to which version we will see, that’s up for debate, as experts claim both a new, upgraded version and a budget alternative are in development.

But one thing is for certain. The Apple patent claims a glowing logo design is lurking somewhere in the Genius lab, and we all want it.
