Some people run internet speed tests with spreadsheets and graphs, but this guy decided to test Starlink in the middle of the ocean by playing a video game on a boat.

This guy ran his with Counter-Strike 2, on a boat, in the middle of the sea.

In a clip shared on Instagram, he had clearly set up a gaming rig onboard and jumped into a match to see whether Starlink can keep up far from shore.

When people’s connectivity lags in their own houses in the room next to the router, this looks like free advertising for the company.

Testing Starlink in the middle of the ocean

Starlink has been pushing hard into the idea that its tech provides ‘internet anywhere’, and boats are a big part of that story.

Several of its kits can be used on vessels, but the Performance kits are recommended for maritime environments because they handle movement and tricky sightlines better.

That matters because gaming is basically the ultimate stress test.

You can buffer a movie, you can wait for an email to send, but a competitive shooter will immediately expose lag.

It also helps that Starlink is designed around low Earth orbit satellites, which generally means lower latency than traditional satellite internet and low latency is one of the key selling points for connectivity at sea.

He’s playing a video game at sea

In the clip, the player is out there doing what every sane person would do on open water, trying to hit clean shots in CS2 while the sea crashes against the rocks around him.

The wild part is not just that it connects, but that the video game looks genuinely playable, which is the most impressive aspect when you are surrounded by nothing but ocean.

He is not the only one testing this idea, either.

Other creators have shared raw CS2 gameplay sessions on Starlink to show ping, jitter, and packet loss in real time, and plenty of users report stable, playable performance with the occasional short spike.

Even better, Starlink’s network is still expanding, with thousands of additional satellites approved to boost coverage and overall performance.

As capacity grows, so does the potential for smoother connections in remote places.

How far will Starlink go? Well, I’m sure we’ll soon sea.
