A Harvard physicist has placed a $1,000 bet that the ‘discovery or disclosure’ of aliens visiting Earth will happen in the next four years.

Astronomers have been trying to prove the existence of life on other planets for centuries, but as yet have been unable to provide concrete evidence.

Most agree that even if aliens are out there, the odds of them coming to visit Earth in a spaceship nytime soon are pretty slim.

But Harvard scientist Avi Loeb has other ideas and has placed a wager on confirmation of alien visitation to Earth before December 31, 2030 – and the clock’s ticking.

Could aliens have visited Earth? The professor thinks it’s a possibilty

If the name Avi Loeb seems familiar to you, it could be because he’s the same Harvard professor who hit headlines last year after claiming that the 3I/Atlas interstellar comet could actually have been an alien spacecraft

At the time, he said if it were indeed a spacecraft, then it could be ‘dire for humanity, and would possibly require defensive measures to be undertaken, though these might prove futile’.

Thankfully, the comet turned out to be… well, a comet, and it safely made its past Earth late last year.

However, he’s not given up on the idea of alien contact just yet.

Loeb has made a wager with Michael B. Shermer, the founder of the Skeptics Society, who, as you might have guessed, is skeptical.

The bet was made by Shermer and posted on Long Bets, where it reads: “Discovery or disclosure of alien visitation to Earth in the form of UFOs, UAPs, or any other technological artifact or alien biological form, as confirmed by major scientific institutions and government agencies, will not happen by December 31, 2030.”

Loeb has taken him up on the bet, explaining that ‘the search for technological artifacts has just started in earnest in 2025’.

“Given that there are billions of Earth-Sun analogs in the Milky-Way galaxy – most of which are billions of years older than the solar system, and that it will take less than a billion years for our Voyager spacecraft to cross the Milky-Way disk, we must engage in the scientific search for extraterrestrial technological artifacts,” he continued.

He finished by saying that he believes it’s better to be an optimist, which is why he is ‘engaged in the search’.

There’s a $1,000 riding on the wager, but regardless of who wins, the money will go to the Galileo Project Foundation.

The physicist believe the truth is out there, and possibly nearer than you’d think

For almost a decade now, Loeb has made claims that alien spaceships could have made their way into our solar system.

Back in 2017, he argued that the ‘Oumuamua interstellar object could be a potential spacecraft from another planet.

Although it was later widely accepted to be a ‘naturally occurring object’ rather than one made by an alien lifeform.

Several years on, he made similar claims with 3I/Atlas, which again was later shown to be a much less exciting interstellar object.

And as we’re still without actual proof that aliens are out there, we reckon he’ll be keeping his eyes to the skies for the next four years.
