NASA and its Perseverance Rover have found the most compelling evidence yet of life on Mars.

The Perseverance Rover has been searching for some time for life on the Red Planet, as we continue to be fascinated by the thought of alien life.

While it hasn’t found little green men wandering around the planet, NASA said that Perseverance found some polka-dotted rocks in 2024 that suggest there are other life forms out there after all.

The findings could be a game-changer not just for the planet, but also for NASA and its space exploration.

What has NASA’s Perseverance Rover found on Mars?

NASA has said that the rover has found ‘polka-dotted rocks’ on the surface of the planet.

These, it says, could provide the strongest evidence yet of martian life.

What makes them particularly exciting is that they can be seen with the naked eye, rather than under a microscope.

Persaverance found the rocks while it was exploring Neretva Vallis, an ancient river valley on the planet.

This once supplied water to the Jezero Crater, which was allegedly a former lake bed.

Samples from the rocks contained carbon molecules, which are the building blocks of life.

They are the latest of over 30 samples that the famous rover has gathered since 2021.

The green dots on them have been called poppy seeds and leopard spots.

The samples contain further evidence of life on Mars

The spots themselves contained iron phosphate and iron sulfide.

On planet Earth, these are released when microorganisms devour organic matter.

That very much suggests that there has been, or is, life on the Red Planet.

But there are caveats to this new information.

The matter could have had a non-biological basis.

This means it could have come from a meteorite, or was formed thanks to heat on the planet.

For now, NASA and scientists are stopping short of confirming that this means there was life on Mars.

But it is a very strong indicator that there has been life on the famous planet.

To fully prove this, the samples will need to be returned to Earth, but that might not happen until 2032.

For now, we will have to let our imagination run wild as to how these samples got onto the Red Planet and what they might mean about alien life in our galaxy.
