New data has shown how much it costs to charge a Tesla for a month compared to paying gas for a Chevy Silverado.

The debate of Tesla charging costs versus paying for gas is one that has raged for over a decade.

It is a discussion that has gone back and forth between rival sets of owners in the car industry.

Some interesting data has recently been doing the rounds on the internet, which sheds some light on this subject.

Tesla models provide mind-blowing mpg figures

Today’s story comes courtesy of some definitive comparison data for charging versus paying gas.

And the comparison in question concerns various Tesla models.

These various models from the range are directly put up against a Chevy Silverado truck.

As you are probably aware from the beginning, the American EVs tend to get much, much better miles per gallon (mpg).

According to federal data, the brand absolutely blows the competition away when it comes to mpg.

The bog-standard Cybertruck, for example, gets an average of 79mpg.

Its long-range sibling does even better, getting an unbelievable 82mpg.

The same data will tell you that the most fuel-efficient offering is the Model 3 Long Range RWD.

It performs to an absolutely surreal 137mpg – yes, 137.

What is even more unbelievable is that the lowest-performing model still gets 78mpg.

EV brand obliterates Chevy Silverado in mpg

Okay, so we know how well Tesla performs in the economy game.

But how well do they perform in comparison to paying gas for a Chevy Silverado?

It might not shock you to learn that the Tesla, as a whole, absolutely dominates the Chevy Silverado.

And the savings only grow the farther that you drive.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, the average American drives around 1,123 miles per month.

This means that Tesla drivers tend to save quite a bit of change at the charging station.

So how much it the actual monthly charging cost for Teslas?

The cheapest model is the Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive, costing around $49 per month to charge.

On the other end of the scale, the most expensive model is the Model X Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive.

This costs, on average, around $64 per month to charge.

But all Teslas absolutely obliterate the average gas cost for the Chevy Silverado.

For the Silverado, the data is based on a national average gas price of $3.192 per gallon across the US.

This would roughly cost the Silverado around $137 per month in gas fuelling.

It also makes the Chevy Silverado over twice as expensive as most Teslas.

If fuel efficiency and savings are your priority, then there really is only one winner.
