A Tesla Cybertruck owner shared on Reddit how a simple pothole turned into a nightmare that cost $34,000.
On top of that, the anonymous owner was left without their truck for four months.
The incident, caused by hitting a large pothole on a washed-out road, led to severe damage to the truck’s aluminum subframe.
That meant the EV truck had to go through an expensive and lengthy repair process, leaving the owner without his beloved truck for some time.

Tesla Cybertruck faces a major setback after pothole damage
In a post published by Reddit user IcerC, the owner detailed how the rear suspension mounts broke and even punched through the frame.
The damage was so extensive that Tesla had to replace the entire subframe, along with the suspension, steering systems, bumpers, and bed components.
A pothole and $32,000 of repairs later he still loves the truck!

It took Tesla service technicians four months to complete the repairs.
The damage was even more severe than the Tesla Model 3 with a hood problem that was bought for $15,000.
The total bill came to $34,013, but thankfully, the insurance company covered the cost.
The breakdown included $21,076 for parts, $11,140 for labor, and $1,796 in taxes.
To put things into perspective, this amount is almost the price of a new Tesla Model 3 when you include tax credits.

The owner still believed in the EV beast
Despite the mishap, the owner described the Cybertruck as ‘the most amazing truck I’ve ever had.’
They also defended its durability, saying the damage from the pothole doesn’t reflect how tough the vehicle truly is.

A few incidents like this shouldn’t define the Cybertruck, and – judging by its success – buyers aren’t too worried about the vehicle’s durability.
