This Tesla Cybertruck took on a Ram 2500 Cummins truck in a towing battle, and it revealed a clear mismatch.

These two trucks would be hauling identical 8,000-lb trailers along Interstate 25, taking them through New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming.

This would be the ultimate test of each truck’s towing capabilities.

With one truck being electric and the other being diesel, which one would come out on top?

Which truck would perform best at towing – the Tesla Cybertruck or the Ram 2500 Cummins?

Now, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Cybertruck go head-to-head with another truck as far as towing is concerned.

We’ve seen it go up against a Chevy Silverado and a 1990s Dodge Ram.

This time around, it would be going up against a Ram 2500.

This test was carried out by Andre Smirnov, the host of YouTube channel The Fast Lane Truck.

He wanted to see which truck would do a better job hauling an 8,000-lb trailer along Interstate 25.

The Cybertruck certainly had a lot going for it – air suspension, four-wheel driving, trailer brake controls, and lights – but was lacking in some towing-specific modes that would come with traditional trucks.

Not that the Ram 2500 Cummins is a slouch by comparison.

With a max towing capacity of 20,000 lbs, it was a force to be reckoned with.

But the question was this – which one would trump the other?

What happened out on Interstate 25?

Out on the road, the Cybertruck began to struggle, with the battery consumption under load being pretty significant.

After towing for just 43 miles, the battery was already dipping down towards half charge.

There’s also the issue of range estimate, which became inaccurate due to the towing load.

In the end, the Cybertruck covered 85 miles on its charge, using 107kWh of energy.

On the other hand, the diesel Ram demonstrated more range, in addition to its exemplary towing capabilities.

The result was clear: the EV is capable of short trips but not ideal for long-distance towing with large loads, whereas the diesel Ram performs better with heavy trailers long-term.

“It’s all about the right tool for the right job,” Roman Mica, a fellow presenter on the channel, noted.
