For all of its aesthetic indifferences, it’s easy to forget that underneath the tonneau cover disguise, the Tesla Cybertruck is a pick-up.

But it is. The Cybertruck isn’t just a strange-looking bulletproof battery pack on wheels.

And the staple question of a pickup truck is how peachy is the rear? Can it hold enough? Is it covered enough?

Well, in the case of the Tesla Cybertruck, one esteemed advocate of the pickup claims that the durability of the tonneau cover makes it one of the best in the business.

Tesla Cybertruck tonneau cover passes the durability test

When you think of pickup trucks, you connect with the Ford Ranger or Toyota Hilux. But, the Tesla Cybertruck is quickly gaining ground in its reputation.

Most notably, the transformers-looking shuttle boasts a tonneau cover which is now being hailed above all else for its durability.

One TikTok user has showcased just how protective the cover is, beating out the old soft-tops or tarpaulins that you see in other vehicles.

User Joe Fay climbed on top of his own Cybertruck to put the supposed 300lbs weight limit to the test.

“Now “I don’t weigh anywhere near 300 pounds, but I am pretty heavy. As you can see, I can stand directly on top of it and even stomp my feet,” he said.

The Cybertruck displayed is the standard from-shop variant and hasn’t been modded like the ‘blackout’ custom kit.

Is the Cybertruck a durable pickup?

While the tonneau cover might pass the durability test, does the rest of the Cybertruck? Well, really, that’s the whole selling point of the futuristic Tesla beast-mobile.

There are cracks in this bulletproof monster though. Already, Elon Musk himself has accidentally caused some concern over the not-so-impenetrable windows.

Tesla fans also fear that the vehicle is that far ahead of others, mechanical faults will be a garage’s worst fears, with only Tesla themselves being able to unlock its secrets if there becomes a snag – and we all know that service comes at a premium.

Ultimately, the Cybertruck could be considered to be above the Ranger, although for its price tag, so it should.
