A Tesla owner has shared a simple 30-second tip that could come in very handy when it comes to charging your EV during the winter.
During the colder months, things can be a bit tougher for EV owners.
Alongside issues such as frozen charging ports, studies have shown that EV batteries take in less energy when the temperature drops.
Not ideal.

Charging the battery on your EV in winter can be a bit of a pain
In a bid to combat the issue, earlier this month Tesla began to roll out a stand-alone heated charge port feature.
While heated charge ports have been standard on Teslas since 2020, until the new update they could only be activated when using other features, such as the Rear Defrost function, which also activates heated mirrors.
Now a helpful Tesla driver has taken to TikTok to share a super simple trick that will help prevent winter temperatures from ‘zapping’ your battery.
The Tesla owner – who uses the handle @frunktotrunk – begins the clip by explaining that the colder weather does have a negative impact on the EV’s range and notes that he has just 96 miles left before his battery is flat.
Not ideal, particularly if you have somewhere to be.
The Tesla driver shared a neat 30 second trick
He says others who find themselves in the same spot, should firstly put their destination into the Tesla GPS.
“This right here will tell me when I plug in my destination, how much range I will have, to determine if I need to stop at a supercharger,” he explained.
He then used the voice command function to find a Supercharger and navigated towards it.
“If I navigate towards the closest Supercharger, my Tesla is going to start preconditioning my battery.
“This is important because in these freezing temperatures, my Tesla will warm my battery for the fastest charging once I arrive.”

Smart, right? And it could be an absolute game changer for the next few months until spring hits.
Earlier this week, a fellow Tesla owner shared an interesting reason why he was considering driving his Cadillac Escalade through the winter.
