Attempting to tune modern electric cars is tricky, starting with the fact that you can’t really do much when it comes to the ‘engine.

That leaves EV owners with one tuning option – visual modifications.

Let’s face it, the Tesla Model Y may be one of the most successful electric SUVs in the world, but it’s not the sportiest looking.

German tuner Irmscher‘s ears must be burning, as it’s just unveiled a new body kit to give it a sportier look.

Unlike the smooth and unobtrusive standard design, Irmscher’s new front bumper features a non-functional grille, as well as air intakes.

The side view of the Tesla Model Y has been refined with a pair of eye-catching side skirts and decals, too.

Meanwhile, a more or less discrete roof spoiler has also been added to the EV, while a diffuser makes the rear look beefier than before.

Irmscher’s bodykit is rounded off by custom 20-inch rims called “Heli Star”, which are available in black or an exclusive diamond-polished finish.

Although you can’t see from the pictures, the interior of the Tesla Model Y has been modified, too.

It gets new stainless steel door sill plates, as well as high quality velour carpets, and custom leather upholstery for the seats.

Those looking to boost performance will have to look elsewhere, though, as the Tesla Model Y’s electric powertrain remains unchanged.

Unfortunately, Irmscher hasn’t revealed pricing for the Tesla Model Y upgrade package, nor has it said whether or not it’ll be available for prospective buyers outside Germany.

Irmscher may be best-known for its Opel offerings, but we think it’s done a cracking job of transforming the look of the Tesla Model Y.
