Tesla is a brand that continues to be front-page news on an almost-daily basis.
The brand has not enjoyed a good 2025 so far.
It’s always been known for its unique, in-vehicle features.
And the maker has now decided to remove one of the most controversial of them all.

Tesla tries refreshing range to reverse fortunes
Tesla has seen a rapid shift in its fortunes so far in 2025.
Since the beginning of the year, America’s premier EV brand has been mired in controversy.
The brand, as well as CEO Elon Musk, has been front-page news in the car industry almost every day.
To make matters worse, Tesla has now been majorly challenged by Chinese giants BYD.
The European and UK EV markets have seen Tesla lose its throne to BYD.
But the brand is implementing changes to try and reverse its fortunes in the market.
One of those key moves is to finally refresh its ageing model range.

The decade-old Model S and Model X have come in for subtle – and expensive – upgrades.
For example, you can purchase upgraded alloy wheels for $5,000 extra.
There is also a new, $2,500 paint job should that take your fancy.
But one interesting change to the range concerns one of its most intriguing features.
Unique steering wheel still available – for a price
Back in 2021, Tesla unveiled a new steering wheel called the ‘Yoke’.
Fans of the iconic 1980s TV show Knight Rider will have recognized the design.
Essentially, the Yoke steering wheel is the bottom half of a regular steering wheel.
And strangely, people couldn’t get enough of this 50% steering wheel.

Tests at the time noted that it was hard to make sharp turns with, and it was also hard to hold onto.
Oh, and the steering wheel trim started falling off after about 4,000 miles.
When Tesla eventually introduced an actual steering wheel as a replacement, it sold out within a week.
Now, the uniquely unpopular option is only available when purchasing the Model S Plaid.
So, if you happen to be one of the few who love the Yoke, there is still hope for you.
Unfortunately, it’s going to cost you a lot more money for the privilege.
