Tesla just released POV footage from the Roadster launch to show us what it’s actually like to fly this car.
The video was filmed during the event, but it was only released a few hours ago.
This is further proof that Tesla is absolutely milking this, marketing-wise.
But the video raises an important question.
Why this is proof that what people have been saying is correct
We’ve read and listened to so many different takes on the Tesla Roadster event, but there are two things that people have been saying consistently.
First, this was an incredible engineering feat, and second, this is a great marketing stunt.

The company has been teasing details and additional info about the vehicle pretty much non-stop since the launch.
With this latest video, we got to see something no one had seen before: the POV from the driver.
It’ll probably take years before somebody can actually do that in a Roadster
Tesla recently shared new POV footage of what it looks like to be flying a Roadster from inside the cabin, and it looks exactly as spectacular as we figured it would.
The POV video was filmed (presumably) by mounting a GoPro-style camera on Optimus’s head.
But the chances of you and I ever recording the same POV footage with Ray-Ban Meta glasses or a GoPro ourselves are slim.
This is a big question, and there’s no answer yet.

Tesla has already said that it’ll eventually build a Hot Wheels-style platform for its customers.
Reading between the lines, it kind of sounds like they already know that real-world applications of this amazing feature are limited.
It’s certainly not road-legal, and even though some Tesla owners are well-off, they’re generally not rich enough to afford their own private race track where they can just ‘fly’ their cars.
But then again, this is just speculation, so only time will tell.

The silver lining
Details about the Roadster Thrust and Roadster Rocket variants are unclear, but one thing we can believe with reasonable certainty is that the ‘regular’ Roadster, the Performance variant, should be here soon.
After all, this is ‘just’ an incredibly fast electric hypercar, and there are plenty of those out there.
The Performance variant is a normal electric car with a lot of torque and a 0-60mph time of well under 2 seconds.
Tesla hasn’t revealed an MSRP – we know that reservations require $50,000 – but presumably we’ll find out more in the near future.
And, at least on this occasion, the 2028 proposed production date sounds realistic.
