Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory complex is one of the most impressive automotive facilities in the world as well as being the birthplace of the infamous Cybertruck EV is being built – fitting that it now has something called a ‘birthing tunnel’.
The EV manufacturer has several of these factories, with its Texas locations the most well-known.
One of its latest additions, however, is slightly unnerving, with the company calling it a ‘Cybertruck birthing tunnel.’
That name does make it sound weirder than it actually is, as it is a portal from which completed Cybertrucks emerge from the factory.

What is the purpose of Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory Cybertruck tunnel?
The birthing tunnel is part of the Cyber tunnel at the company’s Gigafactory in Texas.
As the name suggests, the underground tunnel is for the electric trucks.
It is designed primarily to transport freshly built Cybertrucks from the factory to a staging area.
The tunnel allows the trucks to bypass a highway between the factory and the staging area.
What makes the tunnel even more impressive is that the EV pickup trucks won’t need a driver for this journey.

They will utilize the technology from The Boring Company, a system we have talked about before.
This can transport Tesla vehicles through tunnels without a driver’s input.
At the moment, they are being driven by workers, but at some point, they will self-drive through the tunnel.
The Cybertruck birthing tunnel resembles a Cybertruck
The birthing tunnel sits at the exit of the actual tunnel as the cars enter the staging area.
From here, they are then taken away and await transportation to their next destination.
Aptly, the birthing tunnel has been shaped to resemble a Cybertruck.
So you have a very humorous image.
One of the Tesla Cybertrucks emerging from the tunnel out of what looks like a bigger version of the EV.

It feels slightly dystopian, but it’s a showcase of the sense of humor that the brand has.
The tunnel at Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory was built in 2024.
It came online in early 2025 as deliveries of the truck continued to take place.
Out of everything Tesla has done, this tunnel portal has to be up there with some of the weirdest.
